Oct.21 Wow we'd been trekking today - in the beautiful green mountains. First we walked down to a waterfall - & a village with water buffalos & people in pretty blue dyed clothes (their hands were blue too from dying the clothes) - dusty dirty children - I took so many photos . (David was very interested in my camera - so I let him play with it & the zoom.) We! were Johnny - David - Heather - Ruth - Perry - Nicky (aussie) - Annemette & me. The nature was wonderful - . One time we had to cross a bamboo bridge - an old rusty iron frame with bamboo stick on top & they rolled when I walked on them - the waterfall underneath didn't make it easier to walk - it took 45 minutes for all of us girls to cross it; Ruth panicked totally & I had to walk ½ way back to grab her hand - & pull her over. Heather crawled on all 4 - ! Heather had just told us that no matter how difficult a situation could be - singing the theme from "Indiana Jones & the last crusade" can convince yourself that you can do it just as well as I. J. Later we met a happy boy & his buffalo. After returning to Sapa - we met Nina from Sweden & her husband Kevin from USA - we had "små grå" a very Scandinavian tradition - you crush Turkish Pepper - a salty /pepperish liquorices hard candy & mix it with vodka - after a day it's drinkable if you got a" hairy chest" - for some reason it was only the Scandinavian girls who had that - (we'd grown up with the salty liquorices.)The rest of the gang almost died! We walked out to find the dating market (something we heard a lot about) but never found it & made our own - We had an awful lot to drink - & a good time! Sunday oct.22. Annemette was awful awake - this morning - It was a relax your brain day today - went up to check the others - Ruth who share a room with David was ½ dead of laughter - David who eat "LARIAM" malaria pills had slept walked inside the bed crash-landed on the floor together with the mosquito net & poles . LARIAM pills was now named MALARIAM pills . Oct.23. After breakfast - we all went for a walk on the road going south - the clouds hang low over the mountains - but walking downhill for about 12 kilometers we decided to walk down the hillside to the river we could see under us - Of course I slipped & fell in a marble mountain stream - hurt my elbow & wrist - Johnny took my day pack & we walked home on the rim of slippery paddy fields - crawling over rivers only able to hold on with one hand - very interesting what you are able to do when you have to. Annemette was a great help- a little hill tribe girl helped me up on the main road again & we all headed home. The guesthouse owner put some herbal on the wrist & the pain disappeared. |
